Talking with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) in November 2018, Thurston admitted he now felt very much like “a small fish in a big pond” as he navigates his new career in the corporate world.
Thurston speaks about being offered a role on the Board of Queensland Tourism and Events and why he was seen keen to embrace the opportunity.
“I didn’t take much convincing. I thought it was a good opportunity for me to take on and learn how boards operate,” he told AICD. “And I can learn about the industry as well – because I like travel and so does my wife.”
He also spoke about the work he is doing as Managing Director of the JTAcademy: “This is something I am extremely proud of,” he says.“Education is the key and that’s what I am passionate about.”
